Brett Angus
Accounting & Taxation Supervisor

Brett has completed his Bachelor of Commerce at the University of Newcastle and is a member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants in Australia.

With over eight years working in the accounting profession, Brett has developed a strong passion for helping to grow businesses through understanding the key drivers of their operation. His goal is to work with the client not only in achieving their business performance goals, but also in achieving their desired lifestyle outcomes.

Brett has worked closely with hundreds of businesses, giving advice in all aspects of accounting including income tax, strategic analysis and succession planning.

One of Brett’s recent outcomes involved restructuring a client’s business to enable yearly tax effective distributions and efficient use of the small business concessions, saving over $90,000 in tax on the sale of the business. It’s results like these that make Brett tick, and help him maintain a high level of enthusiasm in his every day practice of accounting.

Brett understands that owning and running a business is both time consuming and demanding. However, he believes that with the right advice – which includes structuring, taxation, monitoring, analysis and review – business ownership can be a rewarding experience.


Jaycen Wilson
Accounting & Taxation Supervisor

Having completed his Bachelor of Business at Southern Cross University, and majoring in accounting, Jaycen is currently undertaking the Chartered Accountants Program.

Jaycen has over six years professional experience in Australian public practice. During this time he worked as a business services accountant, gaining a wide variety of experience in, and exposure to, accounting and taxation, audit and self-managed superannuation funds.

Understanding that every client’s needs are different, Jaycen believes in working for the client, with the client. By building strong professional relationships, he can focus on meeting his clients’ goals and expectations. Through open communication with his clients, he strives to meet their changing needs, and achieve for them the best possible outcomes.

Jaycen has a passion for assisting business owners and their staff to succeed in all areas of their business. To achieve this, he ensures that up to date information is available and communicated to those in control of the business at regular intervals. 

Eshia McManus
Accountant

Eshia is currently enrolled in her final year of studies at the University of Newcastle. Upon completion in 2010, Eshia will have a Bachelor of Commerce degree, majoring in both financial and management accounting.

Eshia has been working in public practice accounting for the past five years and within that time has gained a strong understanding of the accounting industry. She has worked with a broad range of industries and businesses, and therefore has an immense knowledge and ‘bigger picture’ perspective of all kinds of business structure – from sole traders to family business, and SMEs to large national corporations. With a ‘can-do’ attitude and a genuine passion for business numbers, Eshia loves a challenge and is always looking for ways to ensure her clients receive the best accounting solution. 

Eshia understands the importance of customer relationships and providing her clients with honest and reliable service that they can depend upon. She believes that to succeed in business and achieve their business goals, owners need to have a strong and well informed network behind them. This network needs to provide support and direction, and it is a resource that Eshia always considers when assisting clients to make the most informed decisions. 

With a passion for what she does, Eshia is committed to delivering services of the highest quality and helping clients grow to their full potential. She is always focused and determined to achieve the best result for clients.



Jennifer Stevens
Accountant

Jenni has been working in the accounting industry since 2007 – gaining invaluable experience whilst undertaking her Bachelor of Finance (Majoring in Accounting). Currently in her final year of completing this degree, Jenni is already planning her next batch of study – commencing the Chartered Accountants program as soon as she is able.

After soaking up all the knowledge she can from the business consultants she worked with over the last four years, it’s no surprise that Jenni has developed a natural nous for business. She is quick to understand the core needs and goals of her clients and knows what they want and need from their accountant and/business advisor. Having this knowledge enables Jenni to provide reliable, efficient and tax effective results to her clients and she does so in a way that is easy to understand. Jenni believes that accounting solutions must be specific to a client’s business objectives. Whilst Jenni is interested in all types of businesses, her experience has been predominantly in small businesses, and for medical professionals. 

When you meet Jenni, you will immediately feel welcomed by her bubbly, warm and enthusiastic personality. Combined with her accounting know-how, clients feel comfortable and relaxed and most importantly their goals and objectives can be discussed openly. Jenni’s philosophy is to build relationships, not just businesses. She believes it’s her job to help clients with every step of building their business to be the best it can be and to help clients rest easy knowing that their business is on the right track.

Jenni is a born and bred Novacastrian and lives in Lake Macquarie. 

Adelina Linehan

Accountant



Adelina has completed her Bachelor of Commerce degree at the University of Newcastle, majoring in financial accounting, and is currently undertaking further study through the CPA program.

With six years’ experience in public practice accounting Adelina has worked with clients including small family businesses, large companies and self managed superannuation funds spanning a variety of industries. Through this experience she has developed a strong passion for understanding the needs of her clients and recognises that it’s not just about the books, it’s also about the business.

Adelina enjoys developing effective relationships with clients to build outcomes tailored to their needs. After all, a ‘one size fits all’ approach to business is not the solution.

Adelina’s personal philosophy is centered on establishing an understanding of the people behind businesses. By coupling this understanding with timely communication and a proactive approach, she is able to provide business owners with quality information they need to make the important decisions that foster business growth.

 

Maryanne Ruddy
Office Manager

Maryanne was born in the Newcastle area and has been working in the accounting profession for over 27 years and has interacted and been directly involved with a lot of businesses during that time.

Maryanne is the backbone of VBD and is responsible for the administrative
management of the business including accounts receivable and accounts payable. She is also an expert in all ASIC documentation attending not only to the needs of the business but also to those of the clients.

This means is that if you have any issues you want solved when dealing with the business talk to Maryanne her results speak for themselves.

Maryanne’s philosophy is there is no problem that can not be solved.

Danielle Hanckel
Client Service Co-ordinator

Danielle has completed a Diploma of Business Administration, a Diploma of Financial Planning and is currently expanding her knowledge with further studies at TAFE. Danielle’s ongoing education means she can provide a high level of knowledge and service to VBD’s clients. 
 
Danielle has extensive experience in professional practices, with over five years working in financial planning and legal firms. Danielle has also come from a family of small business owners, so she has a strong understanding of SMEs and the demands of business. It is this background that has given Danielle a strong interest in business, a well rounded knowledge of the industry and a genuine understanding of clients’ needs and desires. She has a passion for helping clients achieve productive outcomes and great results.
 
Danielle believes that first-rate customer service plays an immense role in the success of a business and will go above and beyond to meet expectations of clients.

Danielle is new to the Newcastle area and, while she is still finding her way around, she is thoroughly enjoying the sea change and culture the Hunter has to offer.

Rhiannon Hatherly
Administration Assistant

Rhiannon has a natural rapport with people and, as VBD’s Administration Assistant, she provides an enthusiastic and helpful service to clients.

Her bubbly personality, approachable character and ‘can-do’ attitude are evident from the moment you are greeted in the VBD reception area, or over the phone when calling in.

With over four years experience in customer service and administration, Rhiannon has an excellent understanding of business administration functions and, hence, provides a high level of service and communication to VBD’s clientele. She prides herself on efficient and timely delivery of administration tasks, both internally and to clients.

Driven, organised and efficient, Rhiannon will go to every effort to ensure that you are looked after, and that your needs are met – be it ensuring your messages are passed on and followed up by the recipient, booking and reminding you of appointments, or simply making your experience at VBD as easy and pleasant as possible.

Rhiannon believes strongly in a work life balance, and is passionate about helping business owners achieve both their business and lifestyle goals.
